Description

This Overnight French Toast Casserole is the ultimate make-ahead breakfast! With warm cinnamon, brown sugar, and golden French bread baked to perfection, it’s perfect for holidays or cozy weekend mornings.

Ingredients

Scale

½ cup melted butter

1 loaf French bread (preferably day-old)

1 cup brown sugar

1 tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp nutmeg

1 tsp vanilla extract

5 eggs

1½ cups milk

Maple syrup, for topping

Instructions

1. Melt the butter and pour it into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

3. In a large bowl, whisk together the vanilla extract, eggs, and milk.

4. Slice the French bread into thick slices. Lay one layer of bread slices in the buttered dish.

5. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar mixture over the bread.

6. Add a second layer of bread slices on top.

7. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread layers.

8. Sprinkle the remaining brown sugar mixture on top.

9. Cover with foil and refrigerate overnight.

10. In the morning, preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

11. Bake the casserole, covered with foil, for 30 minutes.

12. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes.

13. Drizzle maple syrup over the top and return to the oven for 5 more minutes.

14. Let the casserole rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Great for prepping the night before a holiday or brunch.

Try using challah or brioche for an extra-rich version.

Add chopped pecans or fresh berries between layers for a twist.
