Description

This Boneless Chicken Breast with Gravy recipe is the perfect comfort meal made quick and easy. Juicy chicken breasts are seasoned and simmered in a rich, herby gravy—all in one skillet and under 30 minutes! Ideal for busy weeknights or cozy Sunday dinners, it’s family-friendly, pantry-ready, and perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb boneless chicken breasts

Salt, pepper, garlic powder (for seasoning)

3 tbsp butter

3 tbsp all-purpose flour

2 cups chicken broth

½ tsp each of salt, pepper, oregano, thyme

1 tsp each of paprika, onion powder, garlic powder

Instructions

  • Prepare the Chicken
Slice the boneless chicken breasts in half lengthwise to create thin cutlets. Season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.

  • Make the Roux
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Add the flour and whisk constantly until a smooth, lightly golden paste forms (about 1–2 minutes).

  • Build the Gravy
Slowly pour in the chicken broth while whisking to avoid lumps. Stir in salt, pepper, oregano, thyme, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder until well blended.

  • Simmer the Chicken
Once the gravy is bubbling, nestle the seasoned chicken pieces into the skillet. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and cook for 12–15 minutes or until chicken is fully cooked (internal temperature of 165°F).

  • Shred and Coat
Remove the cooked chicken and shred it using two forks. Return it to the skillet and stir well so it’s fully coated in the savory gravy.

  • Serve
Dish it up hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits and enjoy every cozy, flavorful bite.

Notes

Want a creamier gravy? Add a splash of cream or milk at the end of cooking.

For extra flavor, deglaze the skillet with a splash of white wine before adding the broth.

Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months.

Try adding mushrooms or caramelized onions to the gravy for variation.
